I often bought Meccano Accessory kits, not to convert one outfit into the one next larger, but simply as a more cost-effective means of obtaining extra parts.

Thank you.

The 8a had the "special model leaflets" but the numbers of those would include number 9 and 10 sets.

The m series 8a always seemed rare- it wouldn't surprise me if the numbers made ran only into the hundreds.

As a side point, the 7a wouldn't normally have included any manual because the 7/8 would already have been in the set 7 !

Timothy Edwards' site has listings (and downloads) of various manuals. The print references include an idea of the number printed. In 1962, 22,300 No. 7/8 manuals were printed; 15,000 more were printed in each of 1964 and 1967. Just a rough guide, as this would include all of the 7 and 8 outfits, and presumably 7a outfits.

Wonder how many of these sets were made. Anyone know?
