CHEEPNIS home shop lathe bench with drop-leaves and 12 drawers
Portable ritual altar for a "Walk-in-Closet Machinist" made from dumpster findings and an old, discarded make-up table from a TV production company, cut down to 750 mm width, 500 mm working depth @ a comfy 930 mm height. Two drop-leaves adding 400 mm extra width and 30 kg of load capacity each. Al powder/PU-lacquered MDF sides and backs slides into the extrusion's slots for rigidity, where the rear 700 mm vertical section (tool rack, shelves & lights-to-be) could be lifted up and away. Two dark brown (sic!) IKEA "Helmer" drawer units doesn't really match the "EZ-Kleen" Al/ silver structure or the grey linoleum top. Lockable wheels takes 100 kg apiece. Weigh-in at 25 kg, some 20 hrs of work and a cost of NIL (any currency) makes this sturdy enough to even carry the bench lathe w/o buckling or complaints from the "Next of kin".

Thanks Mike! Kind of satisfied myself, even the unintended "Marine" style works - the rounded oak trim extends abt 3 mm above the work surfaces: keeping nuts, washers, chips and whatnot from dropping on the floor. Pitch-black tops on the leaves makes for better contrast. |
