Found: Imperial & Metric tap and die set
Found a ”Deeland – Guaranteed Quality Tools” almost complete tap & die set in the bin/ dumpster at work. Most certainly of Japanese, early seventies origin, and (non-HSS) carbon steel. Rant: -Seems like the producer wanted a "Germanic" sounding name to their different discount tool series back in those days when a label or stamping saying "Made in Japan" was assumed to equal "inferior quality, cheap Japanese cr@p". Ten years later they had sorta changed that tune worldwide. The Future will eventually judge how today's opinions on "Cheap Chinesium" tools will stand... All Whitworth tap and dies unused, (some still smeared with Cosmoline), except for the 5/16 taps oddly replaced with 2 high-end C E Johansson ones... 1/8”-40, 5/32”-32, 3/16”-24, 7/32”-24, ¼”-20, 5/16”-18, 3/8”-16, 7/16”-14, & ½”-12 //Metric taps missing in the 4 smallest (odd) dimensions as well as the die holder handle – but those I already have around. M3x0,6. M4x0,75. M5x0,9. M6x1,0. M7x1,0. M8x1,25. M9x1,25. & M12x1,75 (only taps for the four biggest sizes) Seems like whoever bought, used and finally ditched them didn’t have much call for Imperial threading. They’ll come in handy and will be ”good enuff” for eventual repairs/ improvements on already existing gear. For prototyping projects or new stuff I need Imperial threads as much as a hole in the head.
