Gear ratio for 1,5 mm/ turn > 12 TPI thread cutting setup
Excel sheet of "least bad" setup to achieve a 12-ish TPI feed for cutting the hob-to-be for the NFGC with the Household lathe's 1,5mm/ turn metric leadscrew. Overreaching with a 1/8000 of a turn satisfies at least a DIY Cheapskate like me. Of course it would've been ideal with a 100 & 127 gear combo, but as it's a MINI lathe I couldn't cram those in without going down in Gear Module, and thus would have to print out another new and complete set of gears, whose ruggedness would also leave something to be desired... -Now, wouldn't it be real nice to step up from the fiddly 1/2" (or 9/16") taps originally chosen by Mr Vollenhoven in '72? -As long as I choose the same diameter for the NFGCs brass leadscrew as the cutter, I'll be just fine! Going up in OD will also make the flute milling, relieving, grinding, etc less crucial, and also allowing up to 6 flutes for smoother cutting. Now a HELIX gear cutting hob suddenly seems obtainable, as well - decisions, decisions - the fun never ends!
