Meccano Diesel Shunting locomotive WDS4 for G gauge
This is my model of a diesel shunting locomotive, WDS4, used by Indian Railways. I think there are many versions of the same but surprisingly I could not get any specifications. The Indian Railways have a couple of their own manufacturing units for engines and I think for this they had a collaboration with Henschel of Germany. My model is powered by a modern meccano 6 volt motor suitably geared down. I am using a G gauge plastic track and rechargable batteries, which unfortunately do not give full 6 volts, but plan to power it from a brass track. As you are aware the G gauge track is of the two rail type, which means the driving wheels have to be insulated from each other. Incidentally I am using the 187c plastic road wheels split into two and filed to make flanged wheels. One of the problems I have in making such locomotives is the handrails. Currently I have used straightened paper clips, cannot think of anything from meccano
