As the small Ring Gear is captive within its three x 1/2" Pulley locaters, the idler Gear is sprung to permit ready readjustment of the timing between 1/2" Pinion and small Ring Gear - you can just see the short Compression Spring beneath the idler Gear.

The 1/2" Pinion replaces the yellow 2 1/2" Gear on Mk1, the vertical drive now running at five times the speed it was in Mk1. The sharp edges of the feed hole in the small Ring Gear have been chamfered slightly to aid the yarn in passing through easily.
