Mamod SP3 Steam Engine for Meccano early 80s
This particular version of the engine was introduced in 1979 and now boasted a whistle and a grey painted base. Meths burners were now considered too unsafe so the engine came with a solid fuel burner. It also initially came with a Meccano plastic 19 tooth gear, instead of the previous 15 tooth one, and a yellow 3/4" sprocket wheel. However, when these items ran out after the closure of Binns Rd they were replaced with pulleys made by Mamod. The engine was withdrawn in 1984 after 9,067 had been produced. This is one in a sequence of pictures showing three of these engines.
