The Pulley Block of My
This picture shows the pulley block of my version of the Blockstting Crane featured on many manual covers. It uses 2 1½" Loose Pulleys (from Ashok) (there are 4 more on the jenny). To keep the cord on the pulleys, fishplates are fixed to the Screwed Rods that hold the block together, positioned close to pulleys to reduce the gaps between them. It may be possible to make out the tool used to get the cord back into the sheaves when it comes off. This does not happen very often, even with trainee operators. The cord was originally 1 mm green whipping twine but it was replaced with white nylon when it was decided to increase its length. They seem to have stopped making green twine. The block is shown in its travelling position. The Fiddler's gear has been removed and the rod, to which it is attached when in use, poked through a strip bolted to the bottom of the boom. It is held in place by the pinion for the GRB. This works well.
