1908-1925 Meccano 0-1

This is my first attempt to build models not from the 1962-1969 LGR-era (my comfort zone). IMHO, it used to be much more difficult to follow instructions before 1962, and thus before they started to use exploded views in the instructon leaflets. All you got was a couple of pictures and some text, the rest coming from one´s ability to interpret things and one´s experience. Hats off to the Meccano builders who can handle with it! Having had to rearrange my life a couple of times in the past, I`ve learned that, if one wants to enter really new fields, one must have the humbleness to start on the roots. And so, wanting to learn to build pre-1962 models, I start at the very beginning, namely N° 0/1 models from the nickel-period. Now kind of a disclaimer: 1) Please, please excuse my lack of purity regarding the parts used, since I have no nickel ones, nor have I the funds to get them. To simulate a difference to later colors, I will use here mainly Metallus parts. At least, a couple of them are adequately similar to the Meccano ones of that era (i.g. two-flanges N° 52, 8-holes N° 54). 2) Many models changed their number trough the years, so that I followed my own numbering system, trying to classify the models according to their type. 3) Some models varied a bit from 1911 to 1925, due to the continuing annual introduction of new parts, and the respectively changes in the outfit´s content. Often a model which needed a N°1-set in 1911, could be built with a N° 0 in the early 20´s. This is why I label the actual drawer as "0-1" So, thanks for your patience. Let´s get started!

Hi, Michael!

Thanks for your kind comment. Unfortunately, I cannot build them 100% correct, due to lack of nickel parts, but I think that a bit of imagination can "do the rest". I´m in process of acquiring (and in some cases refurbishing) obsolete parts at Dave Taylor´s, so that in future I may come a bit closer to authenticity. In any case, I´m having lots of fun building this oldies. And, IMHO, that´s what it is about!

Michael Walker      (at 6:54pm, Mon 29th Jun, 20)

Carlos, thank you for straying out of your 'comfort zone' of the 1962-69 era, in order to show us these small but interesting models from Meccano's early days.

There is much nostalgia here, as many of today's Meccano experts will have started off building models like these.
