As you will see in picture 33, we have an axle with 8 collars. These nestle fishplates at their slotted end.
The fishplates have suffered, and are all bent! This is probably due to the failure of the end bearing on the rear-most shaft. A bit like losing your cam chain in your motor – not good!
The arms that lift the shafts are 15 hole strips, and these are attached to the fishplates with lock nuts so we have lots of wiggle room. They need it of course, because the heald shafts will only move (more or less, given the slots they are sliding in) up and down, whereas the levers are on more of an axis. Anyway the point is, it all works out – the levers can lift AND move in/out to compensate.
