Meccano locomotive from 1962 No.6 manual modified for O gauge
For some time I have been trying to make locomotives from Meccano manuals and modifying them to run on O gauge. This is my version of the 6.14 model from No. 6 set of 1962 modified to run on O gauge track with a Meccano 20 volts electric motor, but using only the parts that would have been available in that set. This set does not have flanged wheels so I have improvised using a combination of 19b three inch pulley wheels and 187 road wheels. There are only two 19b wheels so only one set has been made this way the two other 187 road wheels are used as such and as they are made of plastic they do not short the track. The other unusual feature is using a half inch pulley to run the three inch 19b pulley wheels by friction. The electric motor is swivel fixed so that the half inch pulley exerts weight on the 19b. The current is picked up from the track and I have made a collecting shoe from a modern meccano plastic part, though any plastic strip could be used. The first few seconds of the video show using a rear wheel, which I later abandoned in the completed model, (later part of video).
