Magnetic Braider - overall
This is an overall view of my version of Mike Blayney's magnetic braider - where the bobbins are held in place on their carriers by magnets, thus doing away with the need for "tracks". This is a very cunning use of these modern high-strength neodymium magnets, and Mike deserves all credit for dreaming up this use for them. It means that the braiding action is even more open and visible than before. The braiding scheme here is that used by Sr Servetti in his braiding machine (braiding machine #2 here), where all bobbins travel around the machine in one direction, and at every second carrier they are carried right around it before being passed on.
There are 8 carriers here with 12 bobbins in circulation. The eight carrier shafts are mounted between a pair of 167b's, which make for a very tidy setup of the whole (see the next image), which in turn is mounted within a 12 1/2" square Angle Girder framework.
