Figure-of-eight braiding machine - the deck  

This photo shows the deck of the braider. There are five circulating bobbins of thread and two fixed bobbins - these latter are attached to the centres of the carriers. The threads from the fixed bobbins end up entrapped in the braid, one within each "plait".
