R/C Tank 1
The 6 channel RC unit is installed. A new hand held RC has been designed. The turret is motorised. There were many challenges to make this happen. 1. The 6 channel receiver was slightly larger than the 4 channel and had to be made to fit. Unfortunately it shorted out on the underside and I noticed the batteries had become hot. Lucky I didn't release the magic smoke! So a new location was needed and now it sits vertically and mounted on a plastic M4 bolt. You can see a closeup in the video.
2. The 57t gear didn't fit between the battery boxes. There is a gap between the upper and lower batteries so I managed to squeeze it in there.
3. The plastic Meccano track gears were mounted clumsily so I used the plastic Meccano nuts to secure them. (They aren't included in the Combat outfit.)
4. The RC transmitter unit is as close as I can possibly get to being 100% Meccano. The aerial is salvaged from some old Meccano RC cars and mounted on a part 260a Suspension Mounting Bracket. The only non-Meccano parts 8n this model are the circuit boards which are identical to the boards in the Meccano RC cars so purists could use those instead of the $4 eBay boards.
5. Securing the turret to a Rod was difficult as there is no room between the tank body and the turret for bolt heads. I used a Bushwheel with bolts protruding just enough to go into the holes to stop it turning. YouTube link to see it in action...
