Noel Ta'Bois's 1945 SiThis grab works by picking up the load with the Grab open. The grab closes as it lifts. When the grab is lowered onto the discharge point it opens when it lifts again. It then remains open until it is lowered onto the loading point. This picture shows the Pendulum Connection engaging the bolt which keeps the pawls clear of the 1" pulley when the grab is lifted again. Noel used a second Pendulum Connection to hold the pawls apart. I have used a 2.5" Driving Band.. The Grab was described in the August 1945 MM. when reproduction of photographs was rather poor due to war time restrictions. This picture is of the lower part of the Grab. It shows the extra weights added to improve its opening and closing and stops to prevent it opening too far.
