Märklin Metallbaukasten Adler 1002 adapted for G Gauge Spur 1
This is my version of Märklin Metallbaukasten Adler 1002 modified for use on G gauge track. I have to thank Georg Eiermann for sending me the detailed plans of this and some of the other special models issued by Märklin. Märklin had issued a special edition of this locomotive, I was originally disappointed that this has wheels inside the body instead of outside the boiler as in the original. However, I thought I could modify it for use on G gauge. The locomotive draws current from the track so the wheels have to be insulated from each other. This was done by using plastic flanged wheels p/n 10336. I also added the 1022 motor to run it after gearing it down. I had to make flanged wheels using Meccano 146a discs for the front and rear wheels ( Märklin 10395 9.5 cm) and also for the tender. The middle wheels of the locomotive, 19.5 cm. 11095 were doubled to create a groove for the track. As my track has sharp curves I had to articulate the rear wheels. I had to use the bigger 10395(9.5 cm) wheels for the tender instead of the original 10380 8cm wheels.
