Australian Garbo Truck - Ken Senar
This model, whilst not of a specific prototype, is typical of many such vehicles operated by town councils throughout Australia for garbage collection and based on Iveco Acco chassis'.
Full size, they are operated hydraulically and have an automatic gearbox. The driver, who is the sole operator, does not leave his position and can watch the emptying actions on closed circuit video. When returning to the dump or depot he drives from the right hand side. He can empty housing development wheelie bins with considerable speed and efficiency.
In this model all operations are driven by nine electric motors through gearing. This limitation increases the size of, and therefore distorts, some of the features because due allowances had to be made for clearances.
Featured are: Opening tail section, tipping body with internal paddle, hazard lights, tilting cab with dual controls, windscreen wipers, sun visor, seats adjustable for height fore/aft movement and lumbar control, opening doors, bin reach and raising arms, and bin clamping, as well as two forward and one reverse speeds with hub reduction gearing in the back axle.
The entire model weighs 70lbs, and runs on a 6 volt power supply. The control switches are concealed within the hydraulic oil tank. Work, including initial research, has taken 12 months.
