All 30a differential - October 2021
Developed in late September / early October 2021 and shown at both the RMG and MMG autumn meetings.
This differential was built to meet the requirements for packaging an all bevel unit within the (self imposed) very close constraints of the axle housing of one of my current models.
It uses four very close replicas of the original part 30a which was made with a 45 degree cone angle in late 1927. This change sadly meant that the system both gained and lost a very compact right angle drive in the course of only a few months.
The pictures below show the parts needed for the suggested build sequence.
With the exception of the four standard washers used to space the 3/4" bolts from the drive bevel gear, all washers used are the shim version included in the Elektrikit sets.
The unit has also been built with a set of original 30a gears to prove that the design does not rely on some minor inaccuracy in the replicas.
