Refinishing
Last year, under the guidance of Roland Jaspers, I started refinishing some of my Meccano. I picked out the components of a 1950s no. 8 set and repainted them in red and green, with very pleasing results. So now, to pass the time during the lock down, I am doing some more. My aim this time is to build up to a no. 10 set. I have made a spray booth from a large cardboard box, which is attached to the wall of my garage under a carport roof. The parts are hung on nails on a simple frame. I have not yet got an oven to bake them in - that will have to wait until the lock down is lifted.

Wouldn't it be preferable for zinc plated parts to simply be repainted, with only basic cleaning preparation? |

Good job. I'm doing the same. Did you remove the zinc plating? I dropped all my zp parts into a bath of hydrochloric acid. Not something I would recommend and I don't think I'll do that again. Too dangerous. Clouds of white smoke, noxious fumes. It certainly removed the zinc though!!! |
