Märklin Metallbaukasten Zeppelin Railcar Schienenzeppelin For O Gauge
This is a propeller driven model of the Zeppelin Rail Car, using Märklin parts to run on O gauge track. Some of you may know that the Zeppelin Railcar ran between Hamburg and Berlin in 1930 and also held the speed record of 230 km per hour at that time. The current is taken from the tracks and runs the Märklin 1022 motor powering a propeller made from a two 5 hole by 3 hole flexible plates. I had some years ago made a wheels driven model of this, using Meccano parts and powered by a magic clockwork motor, but had not succeeded in making a propeller driven version. Initially I could not make the right propeller but after much experimentation could do so. Recently on the rust bucket forum a discussion veered round to Zeppelin rail cars starting with Mike Dennis project to which Georg Eiermann added a photograph of Markus Schild's model of this for G gauge, which inspired me to try making the propeller driven version again.
