Vernier Gauge

How to read the metric side of a vernier gauge. The material for a double bent strip is specified as 1/32" thick steel which in millimetres is 0.794. My reading of 0.8mm would be reasonably accurate given there's a few microns of zinc added. If the line to the left of the 8 was lined up (Step 2) then the reading would be 0.78mm and likewise if the line to the right of the 8 was lined up it would be 0.82mm.
