1939-41 Mechanised Army set differences

This is a short gallery touching on the differences in the very short-lived mechanised army set. By sometime in 1940, the set gained new AND improved parts, the small parts box changed (probably twice!) and the carton changed color! The new parts needed a revised stringing card. I was fortunate to get one of these later cards recently in the later color carton (blue). Here are the changes I have noticed......UPDATE: I have now strung up a 1941 set to the original card for the blue box. The pics and comparing the 1939 set are below....

It says much for the prevailing bulldog spirit that Meccano Ltd. managed to marginally improve their Mechanised Army kits, against a backdrop of increasingly stringent wartime regulations and material shortages.
